Manti

Scouted hard for 3 1/2 months for elk on the Manti unit this year. My brother had a late rifle permit, and I had an early archery permit. Saw many bulls in the 300 class. The size is on the downhill slide, which is what the Fish and Game wants. They want 4-5 year old age class for more hunting opportunity. This unit has produced some great bulls the last few years, but I think it has come to an end. There will still be a few big bulls, but not like in the past. If you draw this unit, there are many roads and 4 wheeler trails. The unit is very large with towns in and around the unit. The terrain includes everything from buck brush and cedar trees to high mountain peaks to 11,000 feet. While scouting, I saw bulls in every elevation of the unit. Both my brother and I ended up with bulls that the Fish and Game would be proud of. 4 year old bulls. Not what we really hoped for, but that's hunting. Mark.

Plateau

The Plateau Antelope unit in Utah is a large unit located in southern utah is some of the best big game country in the west. It is mainly high desert sage counrty with Mountians surrounding the unit. You have the monroe mountain the west and the fish lake mountians to the north and west.

I drew a 2 doe antelope tag for this unit and centered my hunt around the town of loa. This country reminds quite a bit of the Mud Flat area out in the Owyhees in Idaho. Antelope were plentiful and we had 2 tags filled the first day. Get high and glass glass glass and the antelope seem to just appear out of nowhere.

I did not see any huge bucks that would make think this would be a great trophy unit, but a 14-15" buck should be the rule rather than the exception.

Expect long shots, there is very little terrain to hide behind and stalk with. I carried a .300 weatherby just for the better long range ballistics. Adam idahotrophyhunter@gmail.com

Wasatch

I have been a part of hunting this unit for the last several years. Once for myself on an Archery hunt, Once with my wife on a muzzy hunt, and once this year for the rifle. This unit is a spectacular unit if your goal is a bull in the 300-340 range. The unit is full of elk and with some serious effort, the sky is the limit. Every year bulls in the 380's are harvested. They are not the norm though. It is managed for 4-5 year old bulls as I recall but still produces better than that. It is an awfully tough archery unit as you are in direct competition with the spike/cow hunters. The last few years the Muzzy hunt has produced the best rut but that changes as the calendar rotates dates. If you would be very happy with a 330 class bull then don't hold out for the tougher draw areas. This unit will not disappoint. If 380 is your goal, you better look elsewhere. Good luck and Happy hunting! - Chad
